For Parents

Ready to take action? Here’s how you can help combat childhood obesity in Ohio:

  1. Contact your local school superintendent, principal and school board members. Encourage them to opt into the 30-minutes-per-day activity program that was just created when Senate Bill 210 — the Healthy Choices for Healthy Children legislation — was signed into law.
  2. Take your children to annual check ups with your pediatrician or family doctor and ask if your doctor has any concerns about your child’s nutrition, fitness level or weight, including his or her Body Mass Index. (PDF)
  3. Be a good example. Eat a nutritious diet and exercise regularly so children will model your behavior and develop healthy life-long habits.
